Weed is the curse of the summer Solent angler and round 6 of the ISAC Solent League held at Browndown Beach, Gosport from 7pm until midnight on Saturday 8th June 2013 was affected badly by that smelly red stuff, Yuk. Weather conditions were excellent throughout the evening with bright sunshine and stiff ENE winds nicely cooled down the 59 entrants from the summer heat come dusk. High tide at 0020 was set at 4.5 metres, perfect for the venue. The match was fished in 3 zones from peg 1 placed just past the entry fence at Browndown, around the Point to Elmore peg 69. 37 anglers (69%) registered a total of 57 fish at the scales for a total match weight of 58lb 6½ozs, 26.495kg, 142lb down on last year with a smaller attendance, the effect of the weed ISAC believe! The sizeable fish total was represented by 5 Bass, 21 Dogfish, 1 Flounder, 18 Pout, 2 Silver Eel and 4 Smoothhound. There was a nice summer Flounder of 1lb 8ozs, 0.680g landed by Isle of Wight member MATT BROOK in peg 34, a Bass of 2lb 6ozs, 1.077kg for NIGEL THORNS from Worthing in peg 25 and a 1lb 11ozs, 0.765g Dogfish for DARREN JAMES from Southampton in peg 39. The 6 Top-Ups (undersized fish granted 1 ounce, 28g and returned to the water alive) were represented by 2 Bass, 1 Ray and 3 Smoothhound. The competition also produced a total cash payout of £765 in 13 cash awards taking the total up to £6,355 for the year with 62 entrants from a total of 120 (50%) having picked up a cash award. INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION Winner of the match was MARK VINTER from Portsmouth who from peg 1 in Zone A landed a 91cms catch and release Smoothhound of 6lb, 2.721kg, the HFOTM to win the top cash prize of £130 with the ISAC Round 6 Match Winners trophy and certificate. Runner-up in the competition was RUSSELL PRESTON from Bristol who from peg 55 in zone C, placed just past the last shingle mound landed a Dogfish of 1lb 6½ozs, 0.637g and 54cms Smoothhound at 4lb 4ozs, 1.927kg to record a zone winning weight of 5lb 10½ozs, 2.565kg winning £100. The final podium place went to the rod of Zone B winner STEVE DEATHE from Southampton who from peg 27, placed just past the Concrete Mushroom, landed another 83cms Smoothhound of 4lb 4ozs, 1.927kg and Dogfish of 1lb 1¼ozs, 0.489g for a zone winning weight of 5lb 5¼ozs, 2.416kg winning £100. All the zone winners won bonus prizes donated by league sponsor TRONIXPRO. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP RUSSELL PRESTON from Bristol retained his place at the top of the table thanks to his zone victory. Russell leads overall on 26 points with 10lb 2¾ozs, 4.613kg in weight having collected £250 enroute to the top. NICK MAY from Hastings retained his 2nd place position overall on 33 points and 8lb 1¾ozs, 3,678kg in weight. The final podium place is now held by DARREN JAMES from Southampton who is on 36 points with a total weight of 5lb 15½ozs, 2.707kg. SEA ANGLER MAGAZINE – PENN SEA LEAGUE The top PENN points on weight will be awarded to MARK VINTER, RUSSELL PRESTON and STEVE DEATHE. MARK will also pick up bonus points for landing the HFOTM. INTER TACKLE SHOP LEAGUE The team representing DAVES TACKLE from Gosport won round 6 with 7 points thanks to efforts of team members MATT BROOK, JOHN BROWN, ANDY DAWKINS, STEVE DEATHE and MALCOLM STOTE. The team from AL’s TACKLE & BAIT in Woolston, Southampton however retained the lead on 97 points with credit due to team members MIKE BROWN, MIKE GROVES, DARREN JAMES, MIKE JOHNSON and DARREN WILSON.
