Week 1 in Mulanje. The first 2 morning sessions we spent topping up and going over our Chichewa learning (of which we have become very slack..) and the first afternoon was taken up by cultural exchanges in the areas such as prisons, schools, weddings and funerals. We set our targets- which were planning on smashing- and met with a local organisation MuREA (Mulanje Renewal Energy Agency). We discussed and planned for an International Rural Womens Day talk at Njedza Secondary School to promote the importance of education for girls as well as the Chance to Choose- career life over family life and motherhood. We was also introduced to 2 youth clubs who the previous teams worked with when implementing their special project. These were a vegetable patch at Chidziwitso (unfortunately this wasnt successful) and bee keeping at Chitapata (this was a lot more successful and the bees are healthy and producing honey) Finally we ended the week with an awareness campaign at Navivi Youth Club. The club itself had planned the day but they asked for our help with facts and figures and also to help show the community that it isnt just a concern for themselves but everyone.
