Week 2: Jan 11 And the second is to, “Love your neighbor as - TopicsExpress

Week 2: Jan 11 And the second is to, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matt. 22:39 At the end of this week I was seeking God on what verse we would use this week. I knew the obvious was to use Matt. 22:39 but I didn’t want to use it because it was obvious. I wanted to use the verse that God wanted us to move to. So today I thought about my week. What was I seeing? What was really sticking out this week? I work in the front office of a high school so I see people lots of people every day. The one thing that really struck was how so many people need someone one to listen, someone to care and someone to love them. God commands us twelve times in His Word to love our neighbor. So who is our neighbor? The word neighbor is the Greek word PLESION which means near. So God defines our neighbor as anyone who is “near”. Our co-workers, members of our church, the people living under our roof, the clerk at the grocery store anyone we come in contact with. Those are our neighbors. In Luke 10 the story of the Good Samaritan really helps to define who we should considered to be our neighbors. Jesus asks in verse 36, “Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers’ hands?” The reply in verse 37 was, “The one who showed mercy toward him.” Then Jesus said, “Go and do the same.” When God instructs us to love our neighbor the word love is the Greek word agape. Which is defined as, love: especially brotherly love, charity; the love of God for man and of man for God”. God wants us to love those He created. So how are we to love them? The second half of that verse says “as yourself”, that’s how we are to love our neighbor. Think about that for a few minutes. Would we gossip about ourselves? Would we say unkind things to ourselves? Would we treat ourselves unkindly? Most of us probably wouldn’t even on our worst day. There are hurting people out there and God wants to use each one of us. We are the hands and feet of Jesus! So be BOLD, step out of your COMFORT ZONE! Allow Jesus to flow through each one of you! This week with intention, an aim or plan, love your neighbor as yourself. Do some random acts of kindness. Be willing to step out in faith and pray for someone. Try to always have a smile and a kind word.
