Week 2 staff update: Howdy from Knott County! We had a wonderful week 2 and had so much fun getting to know the volunteers from MN, WI, and PA! If you are a future group that will be volunteering with us in the next week or two, please take the time to review the projects so your group can come prepared with the proper tools, equipment, and clothing for the job! Without further ado, here are the project descriptions: The Grape Lady What was accomplished this week? The bathroom floors were finished with VCT floor covering. The hallway floors were removed and new subfloor and VCT was put down in the hallway. The bathtub surround was put in and trim was put around the bottom of the floors. What will be accomplished next week? Next week, the crew will be removing and replacing the back bedroom floors and laying down VCT tile. The ceiling is water damaged from a leaking roof, so it will need to be removed and replaced with new ceiling drywall. Self Affirmation What was accomplished this week? This week, the crew framed out new walls for 3 bedroom walls. They did this in order to place insulation because before, there was no insulation between the siding and the drywall. The wall in the boys room is sheet rocked, but the other walls need more insulation and sheet rock. What will be accomplished next week? Finish drywall on other walls. Frame around new window. Tape, mud and paint drywall. Finish patching other drywall in home. Charlie Bit My Finger What was accomplished this week? This week’s group insulated the roof and put up ceiling drywall. This group also finished the roof. What will be accomplished next week? Next week the floors in the bedroom will be covering with VCT and the ceiling drywall will be completed. Next week’s group will start on the floors in the living room and kitchen. Kittens Inspired By Kittens What was accomplished this week? Dry wall was removed and new dry wall was put up in the bedroom. Sonotube foundation was added to support back wall. An inside wall was framed in the bedroom. What will be accomplished next week? Next week’s crew will be finishing the dry wall and digging a drainage ditch to avert the flow of the water. Denver the Guilty Dog What was accomplished this week? The dry wall inside the house was patched. A 5 x 5 porch was built as a second safe exit. A new exterior door was installed. What will be accomplished next week? Next week’s group will be finishing up a few interior jobs and then building a drainage ditch. Kid president What was accomplished this week? This week, the group put insulation in under the home. They also boxed in the roof, put up the drywall on the walls and some one the ceiling of the addition. Access door installed from old home to new addition. They also put on some rolled roofing but we ran out of the product What will be accomplished next week? The drywall needs to be mudded once more and some of the seams taped. It needs to be painted,floor covering needs to be put in, trim installed. The rolled roofing needs to be finished and the fascia and soffit installed. David After the Dentist What was accomplished this week? The tin roof was installed along with the ridge beam. Addition rafters were added for support underneath the original ones. Bridging was added. Ceiling was insulated and paneling for ceiling was started. What will be accomplished next week? The ceiling will be finished and the group will begin patching the soft and sinking parts in the floor. Neature Walk What was accomplished this week? This week, a closet door was put on the water heater closet. The dry wall was finished. The crew began the laminate flooring the bedroom. The hallway subfloor was removed and replaced and is now ready for laminate floor covering. What will be accomplished next week? Next week, the group will finish the laminate and start work in the bathroom. The bathroom floor is weak and there is no support around the tub. The group will also paint the dry wall in the bedroom. Potter Puppet Pals What was accomplished this week? This week the group started work on a 5 x 8 porch in the front of the home. What will be accomplished next week? The 5 x 8 porch will be completed next week. The stairs and railings will need to be done. This will most likely not take all week. Double Rainbow What was accomplished this week? Most of the rolled roofing was installed on the roof. The porch roof was braced so that a new porch can be built. The ceiling in one of the bedroom closets was removed and replaced. What will be accomplished next week? Next week, the group will finish the rolled roofing. A new porch will also be built in front of the home.
