Week 28: Feather - Pencil, Watercolor and Nonsense Poem Once upon a time a spotted feather fell from the sky in a dart like fashion from extremely high. It fell very fast, as it whirled round and round Planting itself firmly in the buttocks of a surprised looking hound. Spinning and jumping, the surprised hound Heather tried to reach her back and remove the feather. But the feather was planted and indeed it would stay Not just right now, but for weeks and weeks and many more days. In fact it was years, not months, days or hours The feather had given the hound, a life quite sour. She was teased and bullied and often neglected Because of the feather her buttock had collected. It wasn’t just one, the feather multiplied and grew The feathers on her hide were now quite the view. They grew in a clump, which a jumper couldn’t hide Nor the cape round her neck or the apron she’d tied. She became really quite awkward with the clothes that she’d wear, Making everyone notice, laugh, whisper and stare. Why, she asked her mother, did a feather stick to me, Why not the ground, milly the mutt, or even a tree. She gave her a smile and said dry your eyes my dear, You may not know now, but one day it will all become clear, The years past by fast and she got use to the feathered clump, She stopped trying to hide the plumage that had grown on her rump. In fact, she realized that it made her quite unique, Others had started to admire her incredible physique. I hear you say in a voice quite loud How can a feather in her rump make a hound rather proud. But the truth will astound you, as it did me when I heard Close your mouth, listen hard, please, not another word. The feathers had formed a spectacular tutu, Heather became a dancer with a permanent costume. She could dance any time, in fact anywhere, And within several years shed become a billionaire!!
