Week 3... Southern Miss (2-0) vs Arkansas (2-0)... The Razorbacks traveled to War Memorial Stadium last week and had to overcome a fourth quarter deficit against a tough FCS Samford Team, to pull out the win 31-21. Southern Miss comes into Fayetteville today on a 14 game losing streak after getting beat 56-13 at Nebraska last Saturday. On Offense… QB Brandon Allen has been good at leading this offense under Coach Bielema and has looked comfortable under center. He has gained trust in senior WR Javontee Herndon, who has become this year’s go-to-guy. Allen has another solid outing going 12 of 20 with 189 yards and a TD. The Hogs running game has become the bread and butter led by Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams, who rank 1st and 3rd in the SEC respectively. The Hogs OL will be challenged going against a solid defensive line unit for Southern Miss. Although both RB’s go over 100 yards rushing for the third straight game, led by Collins who gains 141 yards. Herndon continues his strong play catching 5 for 83 yards and a score. After TE Hunter Henry only catching one ball last week he comes back with four receptions today. On Defense… The Hogs get back two returning starters on defense in LB Jarrett Lake and DE Trey Flowers for the game. The front four will need to put a lot of pressure on Southern Miss QB’s Alan Bridgeford and Nick Mullens depending on who is playing, they will try to get the ball out to their WR’s as quick as possible. Southern Miss will pass early and often. None of Southern Miss OL starters have more than two starts in a row, and with the return of Flowers and strong play from DT Robert Thomas that’s a recipe for disaster. Flowers comes up with two sacks in his returns and the DL has four for the game. The Hogs secondary has not came up with any turnovers but Southern Miss has thrown 6 interceptions on the year. CB Will Hines changes that picking off a pass, S Alan Turner leads the Hogs in tackles with 8. Coach Bielema has never lost the 3rd game of a regular season. Southern Miss is last in the NCAA in turnover margin and ranks 82 out of 123 in rushing defense. Bielema will slow down the Southern Miss up tempo offense by running the ball and controlling the clock. The Hogs look better today after a close game last week.
