Week 4! Eeek! How fast are these weeks going? What are we focusing on this week? Lesson Focus Week 4 - Wiggle & Grow (2-3 years) Speaking vs. Singing Toddlers vary in vocal experience, development, and confidence. Some may be speaking only a few words out loud while others are relating entire stories. Most children in the Wiggle & Grow classroom are in the stage musical specialists refer to as “approximation of singing.” Their first attempts at singing are to imitate a word, phrase, rhythm pattern, or vocal inflection and rarely occurs in precise coordination with a singing activity. The child may make these imitative sounds while playing alone, using bits and pieces from the sounds they have heard in class. This is an important step in vocal development. Rhythmic language such as poems and chants, songs with limited range such as two-note playground songs, imitation and play with silly words, and rhymes and songs all contribute to vocal development
