Week 6: A Special Day (Continued from Wk 5) Reputation . Risk . Statement . Multiple . Appetite . Threshold . Critical . Breach . David had made some headways into the investigation of Curry’s background. A visit to the Indian Embassy turned up some interesting new information about Clara’s unusual friend. Her name was indeed, Curry, but she had an alias. While his new friend at the embassy helped put together some information, he had a call on a case he was working on and had to leave. The embassy promised to courier what they had to his office and the files be there waiting for him when he got back. Here was something interesting, David thought to himself as he read a report on missing persons. One Ananda Murthy had filed a missing persons report but not for Curry. The missing person he lodged a report with the local police and then with the Indian embassy was for Chandrika Rajah, Curry’s alias. The statement said that Chandrika Rajah was last seen at their home, a two-bedroom apartment on Glasgow Street. When he returned home, she just wasn’t there anymore. David held his breath as he flipped through the papers for a photo of Chandrika Rajah, realising he may be on the threshold of discovering something significant to Clara and her friends. And then he frowned. He was looking at a picture of someone who could pass for Curry, but was not the Curry he has come to know. At least, he didn’t think so, not enough to stake his reputation on it. He wasn’t sure what he expected, but he didn’t expect to be confused. In all honesty, he was sure he got the right Chandrika Rajah whose name may have been Curry. With the picture, the hope for this to be an open and shut case flew out the window. He wondered for a second if he should speak to Clara about this discovery, but decided that it would be more critical to speak to Mr Murthy about his missing wife. The possibility was too great to leave up to chance. He compared the picture he had of Curry to the picture of Ms Chandrika Rajah. He noted there were similarities, but he couldn’t be sure. Would he be risking Clara’s displeasure for not going to her sooner? Like tonight, before he made an appointment with Mr Ananda Murthy? David recalled how Clara, Curry and Fife were having a good time in each other’s company and decided that they could bear to be together a few more days while he carried on his investigations into the matter. He looked out his department’s window and realised that it has grown dark outside. He should probably go grab dinner and clear some of the paperwork on his desk before he left. Half an hour later, David was quite puzzled to find himself at the front door of Clara’s apartment. In one hand, he held a paperbag of Chinese takeouts, and on the other, he had the file on Mr Ananda Murthy and Chandrika Rajah. He wondered about his motives and smiled to himself when he knew the answer. There was something truly intriguing about Clara Jones that his appetite for mystery couldn’t resist. Not that he tried resisting, nor does he want to. Without thinking about it further, he rang the bell. Multiple sensations went through him as he waited for the door to open. Nervous. Giddy. Conflicted. Happy. Just when he thought the apartment was empty, or maybe its occupants were asleep, David was surprised when the door did open. He was even more surprised when Fife opened the door. “My kin!” David almost regretted his decision to come, that was until he caught sight of Clara in an impossible position. She seem to have her leg thrown over Curry’s back and her body twisted at an impossible angle with her right arm supporting her weight and her left arm going under Curry’s body. “Twister?” David asked, to which he received two grunts in confirmation each from Clara and Curry, and Fife’s nod. “Care to join? I was out early on when I seem to be less limber than I remembered.” Fife said with a grimace, planting a hand on the back of his waist to demonstrate. David stepped in the apartment, still unsure but he had a grin on his face. Clara’s face was red as so was Curry’s. He wondered how long they’ve been at it. “Uhh..I’ll pass. I’m sure it’s a breach in protocol to engage in playful games when I have my service weapon with me.” David said, liking his excuse very much. - picture of course of Curry.
