Week 6 Drayton A reclaimed Division One’s top spot in fashionable style after thrashing Moreton A 9-1. Trebles from Drayton’s Karl Bushell and Matthew Davies gave the host’s an unassailable lead, before Robert Hudson (2) further stamped their authority on the game. As a result, Drayton overtake Abingdon A at the summit and lead the league table by four points following their fifth win of the season, with Moreton remaining sixth. RAL A rocketed away from the relegation zone after impressively defeating third-placed Moreton B 8-2 away from home. Chris Lansley and Neil Hurford starred for the visitor’s, handing RAL their third victory in four league games to jump up to fourth in the standings. Meanwhile the final game in the top-tier saw Marlborough B comfortably record their first win of the season after seeing off fellow strugglers RAL B 7-3. Maximums from Phil Haycock and James Lovelock sealed a stunning away victory for Marlborough, meaning the two sides switch places with RAL’s loss dropping them to ninth. Upton A prevailed above both in-form Drayton teams to lead Division Two by two solitary points after hammering RAL D 8-2. Both John Talbot and James Tripp grabbed exceptional maximums for the home side, with Stuart Walkers brace completing the rout late on. Upton climb up two places to the peak of the table, however RAL are rooted to the very bottom on 11 points. There was an even bigger margin of victory at Drayton where the C team ripped Moreton C apart with a thrilling 9-1 performance. Antony Krason and Kelvin Davies (3) found the opposition too easy to handle, with teammate John Gould (2) also in the winning spirit. Drayton C’s victory soars them up four places to become the leagues new runners-up, with Moreton being plunged into the bottom two. Abingdon B were also in tip-top form as trebles from David Smart and Owen Brazell inspired to host’s to an emphatic 8-2 win over previous league leaders Drayton B. Smart and Brazell stunned the clear favourites right from the beginning, helping Abingdon crawl out of the drop zone into seventh. The congested fixture list in Division Two continued this week as both Marlborough D and RAL C rubberstamped narrow victories to help both outlets move up in the standings. Marlborough’s Teifion Chamberlain and James Ellicott (3) single-handedly eased past Sutton A 7-3 away from home to take third-place, before a nail-biting game at RAL C saw the home side scrap past Drayton D 6-4, mainly thanks to Mark Adams’ terrific treble which saw them rise two places to sixth. Division Three; and Moreton D surrendered their 100% start to the campaign after stuttering to a 5-5 at home to Drayton E. The host’s looked on course for their sixth consecutive victory thanks to Hiten Patel’s (3) heroics, but doubles from Drayton’s Andrew Cuddon and Yinli Wang restored the games scoreline to all square, reducing the league leaders advantage at the top to six points. That’s because Grove A made the most of the frontrunners slipping up as they took their golden chance to grab second-place with a convincing 7-3 away win at Marlborough E. Steven Osborne took the game by the scruff of its neck with a fantastic maximum, whilst Ollie Base (2) wisely contributed too. On the other hand, basement side Sutton B marched out of the dreaded relegation places after edging past Wallingford 6-4 to grasp their first victory of the season. Gavin Bosse and Alastair Nicholson’s (2) efforts were deemed enough to fetch the host’s four points, despite man of the match going to Wallingford’s Dave Quinn after his amazing consolation treble. Lastly, Letcombe B also clinched a tight win with a 6-4 winning display against Abingdon C. The exciting match saw the home side retain fifth place in the league table, with Gerald Batt-Rawden (3) largely to thank for Letcombe’s third win of the season. Letcombe D strengthened their margin at the top of Division Four as they hold a three-point lead after comfortably defeating Abingdon D 7-3. Gillian Vale was the games top performer, inspiring the host’s to their fourth victory in five league outings with her scintillating treble. Despite the entire division’s fixtures this week not affecting any league positions, the inability to not climb up the table didn’t stop Marlborough F giving Moreton E a 7-3 beating in their own backyard. Braces from trio Ron Wright, Deryck Crossley and Steve Cobrin prevailed amongst Robert Price’s own double for Moreton, with Marlborough stationery in fourth as they look down on their opponents who lye sixth. The only other game saw RAL E and Drayton F play out an entertaining 5-5 draw, keeping both outfits satisfied in their superior positions of second and third in the standings. Janet Quarry looked to have Drayton well on their way to their third win of the campaign with her fine treble, only for RAL’s Eric Thomas to star for the host’s as her double was key in pinning back the visitor’s to all square come the final game. Grove B trounced promotion rivals Hanney 9-1 to move up into second spot in Division Five, six points behind league leaders Marcham. Maximums from Tony Brown and Paul Harwood were more than enough to distance the game from Hanney, with Oliver Cavendish picking up their mere consolation. And lastly, frontrunners Marcham had to fight off a resilient Drayton H to retain their six-point advantage at the summit and after clawing themselves to a 6-4 victory. However it was Scott Muil who was the outstanding performer after driving Drayton into a slender lead through his terrific maximum, but doubles from teammates Robin Butt, Robert and Harry O’Higgins wiped out Muil’s spectacular tally to grab a dramatic late win.
