Week 7 Take Heed of the Powers ! The Pigskin Prognosticator Of Prodigious Proportions The Ole Wise One Week 7 marks the half way point of the wildest college football season Weve seen in years with 9 of the top 15 teams in the nation falling last week. The Ole Wise One felt the sting as well with his worst outing in over a year going 9-7 for the week YET maintaining championship style points at 59-20 overall. As the beautiful skys of autumn begin to rule the day, they continue their familiar sayings down at the fire hall, of course sitting around the barrels of fire in an effort to stay warm crying out : I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. I believe that said it best. Lets play this blame week Seven! Said the Pigskin Prognosticator with defiance at last weeks mockery! No. 11 Oklahoma vs. Texas HOME LOCATION AWAY Dallas, TX Oct. 11, 12:00 PM ET WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Hard to believe this isn’t the glamour game this week in the Big 12. Texas hung in there for a while last week against Baylor, but has still lost three of its past four. Oklahoma probably won’t be in the best of moods after losing at TCU last week. The Sooners suddenly look vulnerable on defense and have given up 33 points in each of their past two games. That needs to change if they’re going to stay in playoff contention. THE WORD:This game last year caused a whole Lotta people a bunch a bunch of money as somehow someway Texas found a way. The most interesting thing this week will be ten different types of fried foods on the midway including deep fried BEVO. OU 45 Texas 17 No. 1 Florida State at Syracuse AWAY LOCATION HOME Syracuse, NY Oct. 11, 12:00 PM ET WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The defending national champion Seminoles have been a little herky-jerky this season, but they still occupy the top spot in the polls. Kicker Roberto Aguayo has been the most consistent part of their team. He’s kicked 21 consecutive field goals. Even though the game’s at Syracuse, the Orangemen don’t figure to be much of a test. They’ve lost their past three after starting out 2-0. THE WORD :With Notre Dame straight ahead, the NOLES mind may very well be on next week which promises to be their toughest test of the year. FSU wins its 22nd straight. FSU 38 Syracuse 10 No. 13 Georgia at No. 23 Missouri AWAY LOCATION HOME Columbia, MO Oct. 11, 12:00 PM ET CBS Game Preview | Pick Center WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Tigers surprised everybody but themselves a year ago by winning the SEC’s Eastern Division championship and could take a major step toward repeating if they can handle the Dawgs at home. UGA now limps in without the best player in the country and battered and beat up backups. Suddenly the Dawgs will have to depend on True Frosh Nick Chubb but Missouri is a different defense when defensive ends Markus Golden and Shane Ray are both healthy and on the field together. THE WORD: Mizzou played the Dawgs last year when they were blunt of tooth and parlayed the victory into an Easter Division title. I cant see UGA winning this one with such late notice without Number 3. Mizzou 27 UGA 20 No. 22 Georgia Tech vs. Duke HOME LOCATION AWAY Atlanta, GA Oct. 11, 12:30 PM ET WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Don’t look now, but Georgia Tech is unbeaten and playing some of its best football since the 2009 ACC championship season. The Yellow Jackets are coming off wins over Miami and Virginia Tech and got it done in all three phases of the game in their win over the Hurricanes last week. Duke is the defending Coastal Division champion, but has had nightmares against Georgia Tech. The Blue Devils have lost 10 in a row in the series. THE WORD: There are people in the ATL talking 10-0 start for the jackets, but keep in mind most of those are talking heads called Georgia radio hosts. Ga Tech 24 Duke 20 No. 2 Auburn at No. 3 Mississippi State AWAY LOCATION HOME Starkville, MS Oct. 11, 3:30 PM ET CBS WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Western Division race in the SEC is just starting to get good, and the winner of this game will take the early lead. The Bulldogs are trying to win their third straight game over a top-10 opponent as they enter rarefied air. They’ve never been ranked this highly in the polls. Auburn, meanwhile, takes another bite out of what is a killer schedule. It’s the first of four road trips against teams ranked in the top 15 nationally. THE WORD:Gone back and forth on this one but as good as State has played the first part of the season, Auburn appears to be hitting its stride and the Bulldog secondary has shown it can give up explosive plays which will be the Achilles heel in their first loss. Auburn 31 Miss State 27 No. 12 Oregon at No. 18 UCLA AWAY LOCATION HOME Pasadena, CA Oct. 11, 3:30 PM ET FOX WHAT TO WATCH FOR: It may be a bit premature to label this as an elimination game in the Pac-12 race, but the loser will certainly be on the outside looking in. Both teams are coming off disappointing losses last week, and both teams have struggled mightily to protect the quarterback. UCLA’s Brett Hundley was sacked 10 times last week in the loss to Utah, and Oregon’s Marcus Mariota has been sacked 12 times in his past two outings. THE WORD: Another typical PAC 12 game that plays like a riddle rapped in an enigma. UCLA is better and Oregon has big problems on the offensive line. UCLA 38 Oregon 31 No. 5 Baylor vs. No. 9 TCU HOME LOCATION AWAY Waco, TX Oct. 11, 3:30 PM ET WHAT TO WATCH FOR: These two old Southwest Conference rivals were once afterthoughts, but not anymore. This is the marquee matchup this week in the Big 12, and its the first time in 109 meetings that both teams have been ranked in the AP poll at the same time. TCU knocked off Oklahoma last week, while Baylor has yet to be tested. It may come down to who plays best at quarterback. Baylor’s Bryce Petty is the more established of the two, but TCU’s Trevone Boykin played lights-out against the Sooners. THE WORD: Its the hardest thing to do in college football. Beat two top 10 teams jig successive weeks. The high flying Bears will be tough to contain for TCU after matching physicality with OU last week at home. Baylor 42 TCU 28 No. 6 Notre Dame vs. North Carolina HOME LOCATION AWAY Notre Dame, IN Oct. 11, 3:30 PM ET NBC WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The unbeaten Irish are a distant cousin to the ACC family in football and dip back into that league this week against a North Carolina team that’s reeling, particularly on defense. The Tar Heels have lost three straight and given up a total of 155 points in those three losses. Notre Dame’s biggest challenge, after coming from behind to beat Stanford last weekend, will be not looking ahead to the showdown with Florida State in two weeks. THE WORD: The Tar Heels are on slow decline ( and hoops starts soon ) and the Irish are coming together at the right time. Notre Dame 31 UNC 13 No. 7 Alabama at Arkansas AWAY LOCATION HOME Fayetteville, AR Oct. 11, 6:00 PM ET WHAT TO WATCH FOR: If you’re into “old-school” football, this is your game. Both teams prefer to line up in a pro-style set offensively, although Alabama is throwing the ball more with Lane Kiffin calling plays. The Crimson Tide have injury issues coming off their loss at Ole Miss and will be without three key players -- center Ryan Kelly, running back Kenyan Drake and outside linebacker Denzel Devall. The Hogs, on the other hand, should be rested after being idle last week. THE WORD: 104-0 is the result of the last two meetings in this series. Arkansas may have limited success running the football in spurts but Bama has too much fire power and explosive plays for the Hogs to pull the upset. Alabama 35 Arkansas 14 LSU at Florida AWAY LOCATION HOME Gainesville, FL Oct. 11, 7:30 PM ET SEC Network WHAT TO WATCH FOR: This battle annually is a matchup of national title contenders and has now been dubbed The-survival bowl. Both teams issues have been discuss every way imaginable and although this game doesnt have as much on the line as most years, when teams are fighting for their lives, thats college football at its best in the SEC. THE WORD:Florida and Jeff Driskell are now joined at the hip and the Gators fate rest in his unsteady hands. Thats why the Gator defense ( the most consistent unit on both teams) will rule the day in the Swamp. The LSU questions continue as they stay winless in SEC play. Florida 17 LSU 13 No. 3 Ole Miss at No. 14 Texas A&M AWAY LOCATION HOME College Station, TX Oct. 11, 9:00 PM ET WHAT TO WATCH FOR: After last week’s euphoric win over Alabama, Ole Miss attempts to come back to earth this week and will have to do so on the road against a Texas A&M team that’s still smarting after taking it on the chin last week at Mississippi State. Both of these teams love to spread you out offensively and play fast. It may be the first one to 40 points that wins, although this is the best defense the Rebels have had in decades. THE WORD: Ole Miss is for real but now must go from the Hunter to the hunted which is the natural profession after beating Alabama. Who can blame the Rebs for being on cloud 9 the past week after the greatest day in Ole Miss History. Katy Perry galvanized the crowd in the Grove but her hit Wide Awakeyoutu.be/k0BWlvnBmIE will apply to this weeks trip to College Station as the words say it best. Falling from the sky....crashing from the high.....Texas A&M 30 Ole Miss 17 No. 10 Arizona vs. USC HOME LOCATION AWAY Tucson, AZ Oct. 11, 10:30 PM ET WHAT TO WATCH FOR: We’ve yet to hit the midway point of the season, and there’s only one unbeaten team remaining in the Pac-12 -- Arizona. Not many people would have predicted that the Wildcats would be sitting on top of the Pac-12 perch, but they went to Oregon last week and won. Obviously, not everybody is convinced that Arizona is a contender. The Wildcats are an underdog this week at home to the unranked Trojans. THE WORD: Only the football Gods can explain a Saturday night in the PAC 12. Whatever the explanation it is entertaining. Arizona 34 USC 24
