Week 9 of the super leagues was another good night for Spennymoor with the Top Hat and the Railway both managing wins. Railway v Newfield Nathan Sugden and Mark Kidman lost the first pairs match of the night to Jamie Thompson and Mattie Merrington. David Doughty and Ian Hubbard came to the board in the second pairs but could not manage to get the first point either, losing out to Brad Chapman and Neil Bainbridge. Final pairs match of the night see the Spennymoor team get its first point of the evening when Wilf Mole and Alan Clarkson beat Michael Todd and Nigel Watson. Wilf Mole hit a 180 during the game also. Going into the singles matches of the evening Newfield were winning 2 - 1. First Singles match was played by George Kidamn and Jamie Thompson, Jamie won the match by a scoreline of 3 - 0 and had an average of 20.59, Georges average was 16.64. Second singles match was the best game of the night and it was contested by Nathan Sugden and Andrew Kelly, very close match with 15 ton pluses scored over the 4 legs, match could have gone either way but was won by Nathan by a score of 3 - 1 with an average of 24.99. Nathan finished the first leg with a 118 outshot (20, T20, D19). Andrews average was 24.19. Third match of the night used all 5 legs and was between Gary Welding and Brad Chapman, Brad raced into a 2- 0 lead before Gary found some form and managed to win the 3rd leg in 17 darts, both players struggled in leg 4 but Brad was first to a double but then his form disappeared, Gary battled away and managed to sneak the leg to take it to the decider. Gary started with asteady 83 to Brads 26 but it was nip and tuck in the leg and GAry was puting some daylight between the 2 players when Brad chucks a 180, Brad was sitting on 91 after 15 darts but Gary managed to take out 81 in 2 darts for another 17 dart leg and win the match 3 - 2. Garys average was 24.03 and Brads was 22.10. This made the running score of the match 3 -3 Next to the board was Alan Clarkson and Mattie Merrington, Alan was his consistent steady self and unfortunately for Mattie he never really got going in the game which was a pity as he had thrown well in the pairs. Alan won the match 3 -0 with and average of 23.86, his best leg being in 18 darts, Matties average was 20.16. Fifth singles game of the night was between Steve Hayers and Nigel Watson, missed doubles was the story of this game with Steve being on 80 after 15 darts and then taking another 12 before losing the leg, Nigel continued battling, got his chance and hit the double. Second leg was following the same pattern with Steve on 117 after 15 darts and after anothe 2 throws was sitting on 3, Nigel battled again and was sitting on tops but did not get a chance a Steve finished the leg in 3 darts. Third and fourth legs were a lot closer all the way down to the doubles but there was no messing around in the last 2 legs and Steve managed to win them both in 19 and 21 darts. Final score was 3 -1 to Steve with an average of 21.97, Nigels average was 20.49. This gave the Railway the win on the night with the now being 5 -3 ahead with 1 game to go. Fianl match of the night was between Mark Kidman and Kevin Whitehead, Anyone that knows Kevin will know how thorough he is with his preperation to throw the dart and therefore how slow this match was going to be. Kevin got off to a steady first leg, taking out 102 in a 18 dart leg, Mark then came back and won the second leg after both players had missed darts at doubles. Mark then appeared to lose his way and his scoring deserted him allowing Kevin to take the third and fourth legs, winning the game 3 -1. Kevins average was 22.79 and Marks was 19.68. Final Score on the night was Railway 6 Newfield 3 Ton pluses hit on the night: Railway - 32 Newfield - 27 180 s - 1 (Brad Chapman) Highest Checkout - Nathan Sugden x 118 Hope everyone had a good night.
