Week Four– Prayers for Personal Spiritual Discipline January 22–29, 2013 This week our prayers are focused on empowering the believer to grow and reach full spiritual maturity. Humans have been in search of a relationship with the Lord God the Creator since the dawn of creation. Throughout the ages men and women have sought intimacy with the Eternal God. What does it mean to be spiritual and to live a life that is devoted to seeking after the will of God? Dallas Willard has defined spirituality as, “A spiritual life consists in that range of activities in which people cooperatively interact with God – and with the spiritual order deriving from God’s personality and acts.”4 What does it mean to be a spiritual man or woman? It means we live in such a way that our desires are to integrate our lives fully into the kingdom of God. Richard Foster reminds us that, “Superficiality is the curse of our age. The doctrine of instant satisfaction is a primary spiritual problem.” This week as you spend time in prayer and meditation seek to discover the areas of your life where you have grown in your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Look for areas where there may be pockets of superficiality and then seek for spiritual solutions. Look for those weak spots and the areas where you still have struggles and are challenged. God wants us to walk in victory and to have the assurance that we have overcome the enemy. Before beginning the week read the following Scriptures as a primer for your journey this week– John 15:1–8; Ephesians 4:11–16; Colossians 1:9–12. At the send of the week it is my prayer that there will be definite signs of change, even if they are small and minor
