Week Six, December, 2014 (Enjoy reading and come with comments and questions) The ethnic sub divisions in Burji Burji ethnic group has two genealogical lines in which more than 60 clans were emerged. This comes from genealogical root called Burje, the ancestor of the ethnic group. Markos (2011) claims that, the classification is based on settlement patterns but some informants argued on the other hand that the difference is based on the line movements in setting todays Burji land. Clear distinction is that ‘jirangajora/dhashicha’ sacrifices lamb for ritual purpose whereas ‘jiremalo’ sacrifices goat. He also states other claim that marriage is the only distinction for this category as it is highly capitalized. Member of ‘jirangajora’ supposed to marry from ‘jiremalo’ and vice verse but currently both clan members are violating the clan boundary and marrying among within the same group (Markos, 2011).
