**Weekly Community Shout-Out Alert** I had the great privilege of partnering with the California Highway Patrol to bring Impact Teen Drivers presentations to Livermore High School students and staff this week. While not headquartered locally, Impact Teen Drivers serves all residents of Alameda County, and the entire United States. Impact Teen Drivers, a non-profit organization, travels schools nationwide as an educational program to reveal the real dangers and consequences of distracted and reckless driving. Impact Teen Drivers offers free resources to those that serve our communities—first responders, educators, health professionals, parents and many others. The program shares valuable information about good decision making behind the wheel for drivers and passengers of all ages. Impact Teen Drivers has worked hard to gather and develop the best tools and practices in reaching teens with the vital message of just how dangerous reckless and distracted driving is. Through a unique, multi-faceted approach, Impact Teen Drivers uses video, interactive modules, print, audio, and presentation formats to bring teens face-to-face with the real dangers of distracted driving: the number one killer of teens in America. I cannot speak enough on the significance and the vast importance of this organization, nor can I even begin to put into words the lasting message it brings to the audiences it serves. I was hugely impacted when I heard Martha Tessmer’s story this week. If this program doesn’t spark a change in one’s driving habits, I’m not sure what will. Even if you have been witness to other presentations of this nature, I would like to invite you (yes, YOU) to attend the presentation taking place on Monday, 9/23, at 6pm in the Livermore High School theater. The presentation is open to parents, all members of the community, students and LHS staff. The message delivered is a lasting one, and is certainly relevant to us all. If you’re of driving age, or your students are, or will be soon, I urge you to attend if you are able. I can guarantee that you will not regret your choice.
