Weekly Devotion Spiritual Cleansing 2 Kings 5:1-17 In this text, Naaman is concerned about his physical healing, yet God uses the prophet Elisha to bring healing to his soul also. Naaman is a great man with a great ego to match, so he is insulted when he is instructed to dip in the Jordan River seven times to cure his leprosy. The Jordan River is muddy water, dirty water; his healing will not take place in a clean pleasant river. When Naaman takes the plunge into the Jordan and dips seven times, he emerges physically healed, with new found faith and trust in God. Spiritual healing is not always a pleasant process; we may have to dip into our own Jordan River’s. The place of our spiritual healing, may just as unpleasant to us, as dipping in the Jordan was to Naaman. It may be a place muddied with hurt, pain and confusion, which God is using to cleanse our sins and character flaws. The process of dipping may not be pleasant, but when the season of dipping is over, we will emerge with new resolve, new wisdom, new character and new trust in God. Rev. Jennifer Tinsley
