Welcome--this is a facebook group where members can share their their wild bird photos/videos (only your own photos/videos or those taken by a member of your immediate family ), discuss recent sightings, and ask general questions about wild birds, wild mammals, and other wildlife species. As this is primarily a bird group, and because images of snakes, rats and spiders frighten some individuals, before posting such content, members are now required to message one of the administrators for approval. Any rat, snake, or spider posts shared without approval will be removed without further discussion or explanation. There are additional guidelines that each post needs to comply with to be approved so please read the rest of the guidelines below: Only photos/videos that are the original work of the member posting, or a member of their immediate family, are allowed. If members know of a photo or video that is of such important educational or conservation importance that they believe it needs to be shared here, they need to send a request either to admins SeEtta Moss or Don Gagnon via facebook pm (personal messaging) for consideration of posting by an admin (only admins can now post shared photos and videos). Only photo of wild birds or wildlife are allowed. No poultry, livestock, domestic animals, cats, dogs or other pets or other any other owned animals please. Photos/videos taken in raptor centers/zoos or other captive settings are allowed but this must be so noted in the post text. Photos/videos of birds being held are no longer allowed. Holding birds that have been injured/stunned risks further stress to already stressed birds (thefeather.org/injuries.htm ) and even uninjured birds have died just from the stress of being held briefly. (Licensed banders can contact Don Gagnon or SeEtta Moss by pm for permission to post educational photos of birds in hand during banding). Photos/videos taken outside of North America are required to note the country in which they were photographed in the post text as well as the species if at all possible. All others should also note the location, date and species if known. No advertising by professional photographers or other commercial interests. Members need to comply with directions from admins including any closures of posts to further comments. The Great Backyard Bird Count facebook site is a family friendly site that welcomes young people--we want parents to feel comfortable to have their children visit and even be members. Discussion will be civil--profanity, ridicule and provocative posts and comments are not appropriate for this site. There are other sites for debates of contentious issues. Please help keep this site friendly and fun.
