Through celebrations people seem to forget about the problems and cares of the world and begin to focus on all the good that comes out of having a sense of community. In recognition for the Thanksgiving Holiday, staff and residents commence to express an act of giving thanks and an expression of gratitude by celebrating over a feast of “SOUL FOOD”. This feast has become a tradition for the community of Freetown Village for many years. All participating residents meet at the Boys and Girls Club to candidly select their specialty food dish. The menu consists of turkey, ham, fried chicken, collard greens, macaroni & cheese, mashed potatoes & gravy, candied yams, sauerkraut, cranberry sauce and a variety of desserts. Before digging into our favorite dish, we all form a circle and individually express what we are most thankful for during this holiday season. This celebration and other activities such as monthly resident council meetings are a great opportunity for new and old residents to meet and greet and gather with family, friends, neighbors and staff. The council meetings are an informative way of getting to know what is going on the community and how you can get involved.
