Welcome everyone! I hope you will all invite your friends to this - TopicsExpress

Welcome everyone! I hope you will all invite your friends to this forum, so we can all share our controversial issues and contentious arguments about a wide range of topics, for example: religion, philosophy, politics, science and much more. This is an opportunity for everyone to investigate many different arguments, ideas and speculations about a lot of different topics. A great place to learn about how other people think about a certain topic who might not agree with you, and maybe learn to understand their view and perspective about a topic, so you can make a relatively good informed decision on whether you should change your opinion, stance or view, or stick with it. A good place to get an examined look by others about your insights, ideas, hypothesis, arguments, thoughts and much much more. I hope we all become inspired by each other and come up with new ways of looking at the world, start thinking in a creative manner, and come up with new ways of winning arguments, and therefor share our contributions to the world. I hope this place will be a fantastic place for people to come to know one another and as a consequence make valuable friends or opponents. My ambition is to learn people to think and ponder about each others idea, so they can learn themself what to belief or what not to belief, as socrates ones famously said: “I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.” I hope this will be our leading thought in this forum, to inspire others to think more, and to reflect on our ideas. My mission is to develop a network for people to get stimulated in an intellectual way and to see them blossom into this person who can think for themself, independently, a good informed agent, who can make well-informed decisions, that would by my dream for all people of this planet. I wish you guys, much fun exploring our minds. I apologize in advance that a few people have to ruin it for the majority of the group. You are all such great people and I am so glad to have a discourse with you all. Rules: 1. Treat each other with dignity and respect, give cogent arguments, show manners, follow etiquette en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etiquette. A quick introduction to know when you may have violated debate ettiquetes, go to think link https://yourlogicalfallacyis/ . People who feel violated, may use the Report Post (select Report to an Admin) link located at the top right corner of a post. Please do not tag or PM Admins as way of reporting a post. It is adviced to counter the arguments, not the person. 2. Spammers will get banned immediately, and without warning. This applies first and foremost to products and websites. Ideas, philosophies or arguments that have no appeal to controversy may be erased from the page. If you are here solely to promote your idea but are not open to discuss it, you are in the wrong group. 3. Blocking admins may result in immediate dismissal from the group. 4. People who are on a mission to preach, promote their egos, or like to propagandize are on a wrong mission on this page. This place is made for productive debate on controversial arguments, not to convert people to your personal opinion. Preaching, urge acceptance/abandonment of an idea/belief/fact in a repetitive and constant manner to the point of absoluteness, is not appreciated and can lead to a ban of the person in question. 5. All strong arguments or accusations must be able to be backed by reputable sources. We as a community do not take it lightly when extraordinary claims or assertions are made without evidence or proper reason for it. If this is the case and the claim persists without providing good reason or evidence of some kind, we will regard your arguments as invalid, weak and view your person as a possible candidate for preaching, self-indulgent promotion of the ego and propagandizer, this can lead to a ban. 6. Please keep posting of memes to an absolute minimum. Generally we do not want to see memes. However, if you feel like you must, please do so in a way that it contributes to the discussion in a constructive manner. 8. No drive-by posting. Drive-by posting constitutes a post with no intent of following up. 10. The language of this forum is English. You are free to make comments or posts in another language, but you must always be ready to translate this information into English. The use of other languages to slyly insult other members will not be tolerated. 11. If you have an issue with a non-admin, do not report them; block them or contact me or another admin via private message. 12. Do not type in all caps. it can be seen as rude/yelling, and most people will ignore you in discussions. We do not mind it in spurts but continuous caps are not allowed. * Submissions may take up to 24 hours. General guidelines for the group: 1) This is a group to discuss and debate topics and not everyone will agree with you, or vice versa. If youve exhausted your arguments, dont beat a dead horse by trying to aggressively convince others of your viewpoint. Agree to disagree and move on. When that doesnt seem possible, just disagree and still move on. 2) Guidelines for reporting comments/posts: The Admins are here to enjoy civil discussions just like everyone else and the last thing we want to do, is police threads. But sometimes even the most benign topic may turn into a heated argument. We understand that, and prefer you sort things out yourself. If you cant, you may report a comment by tagging at least 2 or more Admins. If an Admin steps in to moderate, we ask you to not escalate the issue by arguing with the Admin. An Admins words are final. Arguing with the Admin will get you banned without further warning, plain and simple, regardless of whether you were originally at fault or not. If you feel like an Admin mishandled a particular situation, you have the option to report her/ his comment in the same way you report any other comment. 3) Dont let another member getting out of line ruin the experience for you. If you are thinking about leaving the group because you feel offended by something another member posted, consider blocking that member. 4) This link is not so much a rule but a good idea to use as guidelines when debating: A): https://yourlogicalfallacyis/ B):commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Graham%27s_Hierarchy_of_Disagreement.svg And lastly... HAVE FUN! After all, that is what this group is for, to gather ideas and discuss them in a fun and productive manner. Curator: Arsjaad Poese Admins: In the making Introduce yourself here : A polemic is a contentious argument that is intended to establish the truth of a specific understanding and the falsity of the contrary position. Polemics are mostly seen in arguments about very controversial topics. The art or practice of such argumentation is called polemics. A person who often writes polemics, or who speaks polemically, is a polemicist or a polemic. The word is derived from the Greek πολεμικός (polemikos), meaning warlike, hostile, which comes from πόλεμος (polemos), war. Along with debate, polemics are one of the most common forms of arguing. Similar to debate, a polemic is confined to a definite controversial thesis. But unlike debate, which may allow for common ground between the two disputants, a polemic is intended only to establish the truth of a point of view while refuting the opposing point of view. Polemics are usually addressed to important issues in religion, philosophy, politics, or science.
