Welcome to America Again by Mark E. Smith On the 24th of November, 2014, I had the privilege to join my friend, Terry Lee Tyler, as special guests on a blog radio show. The subject of the one-hour show was the following tribute to combat veterans and active duty personnel, Welcome to America Again. I wrote it, Terry sings it, and together, twenty years ago, we produced it. Twenty years ago? you ask. The thing is, when the song was on the radio during Desert Storm, it was short lived. Its because the war was short lived. And I am glad that it was. But when large radio companies decided to stop playing patriotic songs, our song floated back to the ground with few miles on it. So we moth balled the song and It sat dormant for twenty plus years. This past August (2014), Terry posted the low-budget video that we shot for the song, onto YouTube. We had a few spurts of ten to twenty views. Then it laid down again, for weeks. Then, I made a few people on Facebook aware of the link to the song, and others shared it. Then, a few weeks later, I heard it behind the voice of a local AM morning show as a backdrop. Then, I saw the number of YouTube views increase some, Then, I got a message from the host of the show that aired on the 24th that she wanted to feature it. Huh, I thought to myself. So, anyway, with the song well over a thousand views and climbing in number, its hard to say whether it will die again or slowly ascend to its best potential. One thing that I do know is, the pain I experienced in writing it, a long time ago, was remembered today while discussing it with Terry and our hostess. And it seems that Welcome to America Again still has the potential to touch hearts. A re-recorded version was just finished, and do you know what? As long as there is a generation who served and a generation who will serve this country in the Armed Forces, then songs like this needs to be heard. To all American combat veterans and to all active duty personnel of the Armed Forces, we salute you.
