Welcome to our online version of the Old Spot Newsletter Gin tasting I’ve got to say a big thank you to Kellie and Michelle of Mathew Clarke for another amazing gin tasting night, with over 40 of you enjoying sunshine, gin and tapas in the garden. Who would have thought of gin and strawberries, they should get a Knighthood! Great news; The Old Spot has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor. This means a huge amount to us because it has been voted for by you, the customer, and it puts us in the top 10 per cent for a hospitality business. So big thanks from me and the guys, it really, really means the world. Nearly done The new floor is down in the lounge bar, the light fittings are up, the settle ism back in place and the painting has commenced (hopefully, by the time you read this!) So please bear with us, normality is returning - whatever that be! On a side note, I really have had my fill of 200 year old drainage systems. Ugh! Cheers Janet On a sadder note, by the time you read this, the Reverend Janet Bromley will have moved on from our wee part of the shire, but before she left she managed to raise £430 while working on the bar in June …good lass! We all wish her all the very best for her retirement. Kayak Wye The annual migration down the Wye starts again in earnest next weekend . We have done the same stretch of river for going on ten years but every trip always proves to be utterly hilarious and completely different. Reports to follow next time! Good Luck Jordie Our toe-rag of a bar man, Jordan Lewis will be leaving us at the end of the month. After five and half years of pouring pints and entertaining us with his rugby adventures, he will moving to Smiths in Eastington. We will miss him terribly, good luck fella. Bright Spark Our other rugby playing ,show tune loving ,ridiculously rugged bar man Ollie Winterbottom has got has got himself a 1st at Uni. Well done that man. Spotfest - what can I say? Bloody amazing! Never before has the pub seen such mayhem on a school night, though I do believe a couple of people lost their table dancing licence! Music was provided by the Whole Grand Scheme, the Macaroni Penguins and with Glastonbury openers Thrill Collins bringing it to a close. The sun shone, the beer was drank, and the people danced then the bosses were rung to say they had some tummy bug or other ……. yeah right! During the evening we were treated to a little waxing with Chris Burman Day offering his legs for charity and then later being offered £50 for his armpits, ouch, ouch and more ouch. But hey, he raised nigh on two hundred pounds for charity so give the man some savlon! I would like to take a moment to say a big thank you to all my local residents who are patient enough to allow the pub to have the 5 or 6 live music events a year. As a way of saying thank you could leave the pub quietly at the end of the evening , cheers. Monday Night Suppers Monday night suppers are still being served, an ideal time and location to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or just a case of “what the hell”!
