Neuroscience has enormous potential for scientific advancement and for the improved health and well-being of people around the globe. The Brain Technology and Neuroscience Research Centre (BTNRC) investigates the principles of brain organization that underlie executive control, reasoning and decision making. Through a combination of human behavioral, computational modeling, neuroimaging and neuropsychological data gathered through various monitoring techniques, we try to uncover the mechanisms that shape higher cognitive processes and to develop predictive models of brain function that link neural systems to specific patterns of inference and behavior. An important motivation for our work is the development of a theoretically sound foundation for research on the relationship between human behavior, cognitive processes, and various states of consciousness. Technological advances in brain imaging have given scientists a new range of tools to more accurately observe and measure the apparent causes and manifestations of consciousness. At our research center, we engage in extensive research on human consciousness and neural activity. Among numerous benefits, understanding how consciousness works will provide new insights into how the mind regulates health and well being.
