Welcome to the bankrupt state of Illinois... 1) The state has received medicaid funding as part of the Obamacare plan but the funds have wandered off (I speculate) and nearly a year later the state still has not processed all the apps. Aka, I still have no insurance though the state has been paid for it. 2) The medical marijuana bill is starting to come into play, with the first round of applications being accepted. As a patient, Im ineligible because I lack an MD who is (a) in state (b) on the list (c) willing to sign the papers. My out of state doc isnt eligible (though he would) and my instate doc wont and multiple docs Ive called wont take my case (my medical case is challenging) or will not participate in the program. (Also, in order to soak up tax assets, the growers fee was a 25,000 non-refundable application and a 200,000 year license cost on top of a 7% privilege tax, according to what the radio said yesterday.) 3) And while all of this is going on, and the state is in a huge mess, theyre attempting to make major cuts to my moms health insurance. Shes retired from a full career working as an employee of the state and the state is trying to cut its expenses by shrugging off prior employee contracts. 4) And because its IL and we dont like small businesses, Im paying a substantially higher tax rate on my small biz than I would in any neighboring state (red or blue)... because who needs businesses?? 5) The current governor has got to go... but the candidate running against him worries me. (Hes made comments that hell do things that he cant actually do because theyre federal things. I dont think his head is together and his ego is in check.) So yeah, its fun times here. Its a good thing I cant drink or this state would drive me to drinking...
