Welcome to the new members in this group. I think you have come - TopicsExpress

Welcome to the new members in this group. I think you have come via the other group (who are so open-minded that they have blocked me) so you know my academic qualifications. I get that there are people who identify themselves by their illness/problem and dont want to change - this group is probably not the place for them. So here is a little more about me and why I set up this group. I am passionate about helping people to be the best they can be. Whilst I never set out to offend anyone I do have a tendency to tell it as I see it and I get that that can be a bit confronting at times. Sometimes I get frustrated at the misinformation that you have been fed from other sources - I get that that is not your fault and I just want to give the right information. Whilst I understand that there are people who are so attached to their illness that they dont want to do anything about it, I struggle to get my head around that attitude. Personally, I grew up with totally debilitating asthma and allergies but one day I reached a point where I decided that they had served their purpose and I didnt need them any more; my next asthma attack was 12 years later, and thàt was several years ago now. I cant remember the last time that I took an antihistamine and whilst I have to carry an asthma puffer (Im not stupid, I know there is still the potential for it to kill me) they always go out of date and the prescription expires with the canister still almost full. Is there a cure for autism? Not yet, not that I know of, and that is not what I am suggesting. What I am suggesting is that significant improvement IS possible, and in some cases when correct intervention starts early enough recovery to normal, or very close to it, is possible. I have seen it. Can autism be prevented? Yes, I believe it can. I offer that option for those of you who already have an ASD child and want another child but understandably wish for the future child not to have ASD - that is possible. I also offer that option for those of you who have a relative with ASD or with an ASD child and you are at the stage of planning a family. If you or your child or grandchild already has ASD there is much that can be done to help. It is not hopeless. It does not have to keep getting worse as time goes on. It is wrong if your current team has told you otherwise. There is no good reason why an ASD child cant function at a normal school and not need never ending occupational therapy, speech therapy, and physical therapy. Clearly I can only give general advice here and every individual case is different - dealing with specifics is what private consultations are for. It would be unethical of me to offer you an online consultation with never having seen you/your child in person first. Having said that, I will try to help with generalised advice and suggestions for you where possible. Despite some people thinking that what I do is a bit out there and weird, I dont have a crystal ball. For advice on nutritional supplementation specifics for a particular individual I need to see them and have a full detailed case history first. What I do is not alternative - that implies you have to do one thing or the other. I work with other health professionals in a team environment. Even if they want to pretend that I dont really exist (some of them find my approach confronting until they have seen results) I still liaise with them and let them know what we are doing. So for instance if you were to bring your child to see me I would write to their GP and paediatrician and let them know what treatment I have recommended and invite them to contact me if they had any queries. Depending on the case, I sometimes also provide them with the relevant reference materials in case they are interested (most of them are not). I am constantly researching, attending skills update trainings, and I am probably the biggest science nerd you are likely to meet. I like helping people. If you have an open mind and are willing to explore the possibilities, you have come to the right place. Welcome. :)
