Well, I havent been on a soapbox in a while, but I just read something that I must comment on. A wise man posted, If a woman is genuinely interested in you, she wont expect you to spend loads of money on dates, shell just enjoy being in your company. Aw... thats sweet...and thats a potential trap - for all humanity, male and female. Granted, we should not be attracted primarily to ones financial status, nor should we be fascinated by what someone can buy for us. We all enjoy being in someones company. Its a beautiful thing. BUT, dont get so caught up in the romance tree until you cant see the forest of common sense and wisdom. I remember something my Pastor, Dr. Ken Friendly, taught us at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship. He said (Im paraphrasing): after youve done all the shouting, dancing, falling out/being slain, what counts more and lends more weight to your witness is what you do once you get up. Are you speaking to people? Are you paying your bills on time? Are you reliable? Are you dependable? Is your word any good? What is your character like? The same is true for relationships. Yeah, all the sappy romance stuff is good. You and yours spend lots of time together. You do all the gooey romantic stuff. You love him/her, and not the other stuff. Thats nice. However, if you dont take a continuous 360 degree look...DANGER! DANGER! You had better be looking at the other stuff, too. After all of that lovey dovey stuff and being in your company is done, what do you see? Where are you spending all of this time? At YOUR house? Uh...not good. At his/her moms house? Definitely, not good. Does he/she pay bills on time? Is he/she employed - GAINFULLY and LEGALLY? What is his/her track record? What is his/her vision? Is his/her word any good? What is his/her character? No judgment zone here, ok? I aint that together, and Ive been in love a couple of times. But make sure to put a few doses of common sense, rational thinking, and good ol Deputy dog juice in that love potion, ok? Love hard, but love wisely and with your eyes open. Love you!
