Well, I must say, its been a wild ride as Im winding down to my daughters first birthday. Sometimes I catch myself in the mirror and think, who is that lady? Its like I cant recognize the me I was before getting pregnant. But maybe rediscovering who I am is the hidden gift of single parenting. After all, how many people get the opportunity to change and leap at it? How many throw out the blueprint that was drilled into us as kids and rewrite it entirely only to make it to the other side, and realize life is better than we could have ever imagined? We who choose to change through the path of single parenthood, are choosing to face ourselves in deep, meaningful ways that are often unmatched by our peers. And because of that, we get to evolve way beyond our former potential to become the captain of our own destinies, setting sail on unknown seas to reach seemingly unreachable treasures. Our children are that treasure. Who could have told me this would be the light at the end of the tunnel, and yet, there she is, staring right back into my eyes. And because of her, I am seen for the first time in my full glory. Thank you for making me who I am, little one - thank you for making me your mother :)
