Well I need to rant a little. I read in the local paper and heard on the radio there was an apple boil at Swallow Falls which is near the lake and there would be homemade apple butter and crafts and vendors set up. It sounded like fun so I drove the 10 miles or so from my house and realized when I got there that it was at the state park and there was a line to get in through security and there were not many in attendance and some of the vehicles were turning around and leaving. I realized as I approached I would have to pay a $3.00 fee to get into the park even though I did not intend to visit the park otherwise. However when I got to the guard she asked if I was a Maryland resident and I said no and she said it would cost me $5.00 and I too turned around and left. I am angry for two reasons. First the advertising should have been clear there would be a charge and secondly I do not like being treated differently than Maryland residents. It is not just at the parks but the wellness center and rafting charge nonresidents more and I pay lake taxes which are much higher than away from the lake and I never complain about the costs paid at resort for things I buy and for services but dont rub it in my face.
