Well I was surprised our state was / had such a beginning. Then again, I lived a part as a child that black were non existent and minus one small army depoe , none live within 100 miles of my hometown even today and I havent been there in 25 yrs. But, Id put money on the bet. I knew there wasnt many blacks or any other ethnic group in Oregon when I was a child, but, never, gave it much thought as to why, I knew most of the black population in Portland started growing during WWII, but didnt know why non existed before that time. The Huffington Post article is a interesting read to look back at some of Oregon s real history. Some is pretty slanted but , fair and pretty accurate all considering I know I could tell stories and back with provable evidence to much of this article and other stories where skeletons lie. Again I believe in a right to know ones history and about our ancestors. We didnt get to this point by sitting on the sidelines and without understanding of the past can one really change the present to shape the future. The article may be about black/white but interchange suni/shiite/Jew/white and you get picture. It May be one thing here, but you could make same for other places in history. Irish history for one. Anyway. Read or not read my ramblings and the article , the truth is. Often not all the facts , which people romanticize in deciding what part of history they wish to remember, If you dont believe, grab a bible that was produced before. Say 1950. And read it side by side one youd buy today. Interesting how the same book gets slanted and verses actually changed to express entirely different. Im getting off track. Read the article. Minus the pro black slant. It is a really good look at some of Oregons past.
