Well, Ive been thinking about it for a while now and Virgil Donati has officially become my favorite drummer. As Ive been studying him very closely and extensively over this past year Ive come to the realization that hes the closest to what Im working on currently and what I want to achieve in the future on drumset when it comes to drummers. He has the best control, technique, chops, rudiment incorporation, time manipulation, and creativity of any drummer Ive seen and heard as well as having the most aesthetically pleasing drumming style for my taste. Virgil is his own entity. By musicians that hes played with in the studio and on stage that are intimidated by his complete control as a player have called him a statistic anomaly. I couldnt agree more with that title for him. Hes my new leading inspiration as a drummer and I have high hopes for him sparking me in a lot of different directions on the drumset.
