Well. Spent several hours on the phone today only to learn that thanks to the Bush administration, I am not eligible for veterans benefits. The law he signed into effect changed the perameters of how veterans qualify. You must have 2 consecutive years of full-time active duty OR 6 years of ACTIVE reserve, or a combination of the two. I am just short of the 2 years full-time active service, and while my records show reserve time served from 92-99, my unit was only activated once, and the time is still not quite enough. So, for the time I put in, I receive nothing. No medical benefits, no college benefits, no VA home loan benefits, only a DD-214 with an honorable discharge that means nothing because under the law I am also not eligible for veterans prefence points for jobs that use them as a hiring tool. I am absolutely disgusted with this since anyone could have told me this in the last 10 years that I have been fighting with VA to receive my benefits and noone had even bothered until today.
