Well, a hard decision, but I pulled the plug on my plans for promoting cruises with a volunteer opportunity in Mexico. No trip to Cabo San Lucas for me this summer now... and no more being a consultant with Expedia CruiseShipCenters. My decision, not theirs. Everybodys been great, including Expedia CSC and lots of supportive friends, but the more Ive learned, the more Ive had to get real with myself. I can see that in order for this to have a good chance at being successful, the service to humanity part would have to take a back seat to sales. And I know myself well enough to know Im not going to be a Hey, what can I do to get you into this cruise today kind of sales person. So... Reality Check, and chalk it up as a good education. Ive had a really fun time learning a lot of interesting things about cruises, thats for certain, and have no regrets. Anyway... although Ive shelved the idea for a meaningful way to make a few extra dollars in my retirement while providing a great service, Im not entirely abandoning the idea of supporting a volunteer effort for the Cabo San Lucas friends sometime in the near future. Its a such beautiful place for someone to have a vacation and also do a little good for some children and families in need there at the same time. While its become a popular tourist spot, it seems that too many impoverished local families there do not reap any of the benefits from it. Later on.... maybe if we also happen to find a few other friends interested in joining us... Marcia and I may try to organize our own little volunteer vacation group (probably fly down, rather than sail, though). Keep smiling! Life is good!
