Well as of today there have been more than 100 copies of the Official Guide to the Saving Tara Project presold via the facebook site (thank you very much). There were over 20 people waiting for me at the gate on Saturday morning to brave the possible rain showers and view the Tara façade, and the next tour date (Saturday August 16) is pretty much packed out. To date, (according to what I have found on google) the Tara façade has received press from Paul Crawley from Channel 11 in Atlanta, MissyNissyChic’s online site, the Daily Mirror, The New York Daily News and even the Atlanta Business Chronicle and (baring a catastrophe) I will be interviewed via skype by Al Jazeera USA on Wednesday and conduct a tour with a reporter from London in the next week or so. But I am saying all that, …. to say this, …..the work goes on. You see I was given a great piece of advice by the business administrator of the largest Baptist Church in the World when I worked there in the late 1970’s. Dr. Shanks would say, “Business is like riding a bicycle, you move forward or you fall off”…and I know from experience that “falling off” causes pain and suffering and a loss of momentum. So, there will not be any banners over the old dairy barn. If you come by this afternoon I may be there looking thru piles of broken and splintered wood trying to find another small piece of the puzzle….cause it is the way we have gotten this far and I believe the way this project will be completed. The story of this project has gotten out NOT because I can talk louder than anyone else or because I hounded the press until they came to visit and see for themselves, the story of the restoration and tours has traveled via you folks and the media has found it because of the people….and not the other way around. The preservation and restoration will continue via the acts of good people stopping to help out. Items have been identified by volunteers sifting through mounds of dirt while looking at a photo that gives them a better angle of view of the piece they are seeking…the photo sent thru email from a far off source “who just wanted to help”. The next tour date is 9:00 AM on Saturday, August 16 and then again at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 30 (after my free storytelling program in the Confederate Cemetery from 10-11:30 that morning). The next workday for volunteers is Saturday, August 23 (please notify me as usual) and in between….lets tell more folks, sell more books and enjoy this great piece of history that we are all a part of preserving…cause I haven’t done this alone. I’ll be waiting for you down by the front gate. Peter
