Well, choral friends, this morning I was delighted to discover that I can *finally* share one of my favorite Advent folk-carols with you! I discovered it when Anne Sofie von Otter released her Home for Christmas cd in 1999. The Swedish folk-carol Koppången is an exquisite melding of Py Bäckmans text with composer Pererik Moraeus lyrical music: images of warm candlelight and silent darkness, of cold snow and inner warmth, of hearing a choir singing through the darkness and the ice. Anne Sofie ‘frames’ her cd with this piece, singing it in Swedish on track 1 and in English in the final track (click here to listen in English --> youtu.be/oPWI7pH2n5E) The good news is that Robert Sund arranged this piece for chorus: in SATB or TTBB or SSAA (via Gehrmans)!
