Queensland Combined Events Championships, Brisbane – 10/11 January 2015 Portia Bing rocketed up the New Zealand all-time list with victory in a personal best heptathlon score of 6102. This now ranks the 21 year old fourth on the all-time list behind Joanne Henry, Sarah Cowley and Rebecca Wardell and gives her a B qualifying performance for the world championships in Beijing in August. Over the two days of competition and seven events Bing achieved five personal bests, 13.65 in the 100m hurdles, 1.80m in the high jump, 23.85 in the 200m, 6.20m long jump and 2:14.28 800m. Her other two events were 12.30m in the shot put and a javelin throw of 36.74m. The 2010 Oceania under 20 long jump champion and fifth in the heptathlon at the 2012 world junior championships added 328 points to her previous best score in winning the 2013 New Zealand title. Aaron Booth was second in the open decathlon with a personal best total of 6826. The 18 year old likewise had a number of individual events career bests with 6.68m in the long jump, 12.34m shot put, 51.76 400m and 110m hurdles in 16.31. Booth’s previous best total was 6691 at the Australian championships in April last year. Cedric Dubler of Australia, world junior championships silver medallist last year, won with a score of 7197.
