Well, folks, I havent posted anything much except memes lately, so today I actually have some significant news. This afternoon after work I took Rascal the Wonder Guinea Pig to the Central Plains Veterinary Clinic so the animal doctor could inspect the little guys recently troublesome right eye. In Summer, I noticed that the lower lid on Rascals said eye was receding a bit, but I figured it wasnt anything to worry too much about. As the months flew by I noticed that it wasnt getting any better. And two weeks ago I noticed that the area under his eye was pink and swollen. I applied warm compresses, but the swelling did not subside. Anyway, Dr. Peters diagnosed Rascal with having a very small, but benign tumour. It is not dangerous at this stage and is not on or in his eye, but rather situated in the inner lining between the eyeball and lid. The vet believed the condition is known as Pea Eye. Here is a description from the Guinea Lynx site: Pea Eye Pea eye (or fatty eye) is a permanent protrusion of the conjunctival sac, thought to be inherited. Pea eye and fatty eye are frequently grouped together by vets as conjunctival swelling. These conjunctival protrusions can be removed by laser if they are interfering with vision. Cavies with pea eye generally do not seem to be uncomfortable and treatment is usually not necessary. Dr. Peters wants me to take a picture of Rascals eye once every week and keep them on record to observe if there is any further spreading of the growth that could potentially cause his eye to pop out of his head, etc. Only then could we discuss any possible surgery to remove the tumour as it is not bothering him, except when people like me and the vet start poking around his little peepers. Well, folks, today this little varmint cost me $73.50 in vet bills. But his cuddles and snuggles are worth every penny. By the way, I carried Rascal in a insulated Shoppers Drug Mart bag lined with towels to and from the clinic which is only about five blocks away from my apartment. (Because I still dont know how to drive.) The weather was very nice, thankfully. Now I can get some sleep tonight. Happy Halloween!
