Well folks looks like we are in for some very cool and wet weather along the front-range over the next several days. A relative cold air-mass moving in from central Canada combined with a vigorous short-wave aloft will set the stage for rounds of heavy rain in the Denver/Boulder area from mid-day Tuesday to Thursday morning. For today, most of the thunderstorm activity will be south and west of the Denver/Boulder area, primarily from the Palmer Divide south. There may be a few isolated storms over south Denver between 3pm-6pm but most areas wont see much rain today. As the colder air moves down the front-range tonight, upslope flow combined with some upper-level energy will create favorable conditions for pockets of heavy rain tomorrow afternoon / evening. Then an even stronger cold-front (aloft and at the surface) will combine with a strong short-wave to produce rain from mid-morning Wednesday all the way into Thursday morning. So basically off and on bouts of heavy rain from 12pm Tuesday to 12am Thursday. Image below shows the short-wave Wednesday morning, the cold-front and upslope at 700mb on Wednesday morning and the forecast total accumulated precip ending at 6am Thursday. All three models are showing about 1-3 of total liquid from Ft. Collins down through Denver by Thursday morning so its going to be wet to say the least. Highs on Wednesday may not get above 70. Enjoy! :)
