Well, here it goes! Today I met with the same surgeon that did my foot surgery in July, and WE have decided that it will be my best option to move forward with getting back to a more normal, active lifestyle is to have my lower right leg amputated about midway between my knee and ankle. My foot hasnt been progressing to the point of becoming fully closed, and regaining a healthy useable foot. It is still retaining, and will always, some of the infection that caused the original amputation. By having this Below Knee Amputation the doctor is very positive he will be able to get ahead of the infection, and completely rid my system from the infection. The amputation will be in two stages. The first surgery will be on Monday the 14th. Monday they will remove my right foot just above the ankle, and this will allow the yucky stuff that has begun to go up my leg to drain out of it. Then on Wednesday the second surgery will complete the amputation below the knee, and create the stub. They will put, basically, a cast from my stub to about half way up my thigh for about 10 days to 2 weeks to control the swelling and to protect the incision. I will be staying in the hospital from Monday to, hopefully, be released to go home by the weekend!!!!!!!! After the cast is removed, and sutures are removed, they will fit me for my socket to fit my stub, and with in about 3-4 days I will be up and walking on it. The entire process will be between 3 and 4 weeks, that are what both the doctor and prosthetic guy told me today!!!!!!! I am doing my best to explain the entire deal so as to eliminate some question, and having to tell the story so many times. I am VERY much ok with my decision, and appreciate any and all prayers and thoughts sent my families way!!!!! I welcome any and all questions, comments, or well wishes, either on here or if our paths will cross. I will be trying my best to keep posting updates on here as best I can, as often as I can, as things progress. I am very much ok with talking about, and answering any questions anybody has if you would like to message me on here. Either inbox me, or in the comments!
