Well, here we are on day 2 in Stupidland. We have and need a two - TopicsExpress

Well, here we are on day 2 in Stupidland. We have and need a two party system with opposing points of view. But when we get thirdgraders elected to Congress this is what we get. (This doesn’t speak well for the electorate either.) It is noteworthy that while government public servants (otherwise known as the dreaded government employees) will not get paid, the REPRESENTATIVES/SENATORS and their staffs do get paid. Some have said they will give up their paychecks during the shutdown. But they can’t legally do that. They could however, give the cash from their paychecks directly to the local food bank. Nobody has volunteered to do that so far, so their surrender of the paychecks is just a symbolic gesture. The House voted 40 times to repeal Obamacare without offering any substitute or alternative. One would think after the first couple of votes you would have been able to figure out that voting to repeal Obamacare was a lost cause because of a Democratic Senate and a Democratic President. But no, after 38 more votes you still are trying to defeat/destroy/defund/deflate Obamacare. If they wanted to offer a new law to change some aspect or flaw in Obamacare that would be appropriate. But no,, it’s vote again to repeal with nothing offered as a substitute. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of stupidity. I’ve never seen anyone so determined to prevent fellow Americans from getting health care. Considering that Congress is supposed to be governing for the good of the people, all the people, the disingenuousness is astounding. And all because of a very basic sentiment; they can’t stand to have a black man in the White House. True, there are a few sensible, rational Republicans. But they have been scared out of their wits by the TeaPartiers. It seems that any time, anywhere, the Republicans gain power by hook or by crook, irrational things start to happen. Voting rights restrictions, wars against women, union busting, debt ceiling battles, massive resistance to helping people get affordable health care or foodstamps, emergency managers take over whole cities, income disparities triple, and governments shutdown. The bottom line is that while we need a responsible, viable, rational Republican party, at this time none of them should be entrusted with a public office, anywhere, at any level of government.
