Well, it seems like I pried Pandoras box wide open yesterday! Let me explain: during the course of the day, I heard/read three different people speak really disparagingly of America. It wasnt constructive criticism; it wasnt righteous dissent; it wasnt thoughtful opinion - - all of which I love, learn from, and accept. It was just hate filled. just people speaking of how awful America is/was and how they hated it. It bugged me. So I wrote it down. Im a proud daughter of Trinidad (I love that island!), and a grateful adopted child of America. YES! America has its flaws, and has done its share of wrongs - - its history is littered with them - - and I WILL speak up about those, especially the injustices past and present; I humbly stand on the shoulders of people who fought and died doing just that. But Im not sure that the constant, hateful, derogatory, tearing-it-and-its-people-down by people who live here is always fair, especially when the country has done quite a bit of good as well. I lived in England for a year, and I didnt LOVE EVERYTHING about it, but I was blessed to live, work, and worship there in peace. I spoke my mind, but at NO point was I ever going to disrespect and spit on the country. The English are so proud of their land, the would have risen en masse and driven me, politely, to the airport if I did;)! The country was good to us, accepted us, and kept us safe while we were there...Im grateful for that! Anyhow, thats it. Im honored and grateful to live here...this great, flawed and still- learning America has been good to my family, and I love the fact that we, its citizens and non citizens, can agree and disagree about it OUT LOUD. love you guys...and yes, that includes you who disagree with me too;).
