Well it was Monday and you know what that means, prime rib special night at Backfin Blue Cafe, 2913 Beach Blvd S, Gulfport. I love this place! An old Florida home converted into a restaurant. Small and comfortable with great ambiance made larger with a nice outside patio. Famous for the best crab cakes around but the excellence doesnt stop there. I went with the best daughter in the world, Chop Chop. We started out with some puree of corn and crab chowder, a crab cake and some meatloaf sliders. The chowder is very tasty indeed with a nice scoop of crab in the middle to add to the flavor. Then we went on to enjoy a crab cake. This is one of the house specialties and after one bite youll know why. Superb, full of meaty, lump crab meat, the best around these parts. The meatloaf sliders were complimented by a layer of gorgonzola cheese, different and delicious. Next was a nice fresh salad with house balsamic vinaigrette. Then came our entrées. I got the prime rib with mashed potatoes and Chop Chop got the macadamian nut crusted grouper. Prime rib was great as were the mashed potatoes. The grouper came with pasta with home made sauce all of it very enjoyable! All prepared by Chef Par Excellence Bruce Harris. With a visit from Smilin Harold Russell, the owner of this Gulfport gem.The service was as good as the food was tasty. Will definitely be back! But I must confess Im a bit biased as Chef Harris is my son!
