Well, its been a busy year for Commodore Ivan and his team of enthusiastic elves. The Dinghy Section goes from strength to strength with a good number of eager new sailors joining the fleet as a result of the very successful dinghy sailing courses we ran at Portush West Bay this summer (acknowledgement to Ivor Neill for giving us the loan of the Fevas and to PYC for the use of their changing rooms and boatshed). Our instruction programme continues on the river each Saturday and will continue as long as the weather is suitable. Coleraine YC certainly lived up to our objective of promoting sailing as a sport for everyone and, true to form, promoted the sport of sailing at every opportunity this year by organising regattas at Ballycastle, Rathlin Island, Skerries Roads, Portrush, Portrush Regatta and by organising the 2nd Portrush Festival Regatta on behalf of Coleraine Borough Council. Our Skerries Roads event was a great success, attracting top class sailors from Lough Foyle and Belfast Lough and provided a marvelous spectacle for the thousands of people who stopped to watch and enjoy the sight. Some of our dinghy sailors compete regularly on Belfast Lough and travel to other clubs thereby raising the profile of CYC as well as making great friends and gaining invaluable racing experience. On the river, this years 24Hr Race was hit by severe weather and had to be abandoned midway, but was a great success nonetheless. Autumn racing is very popular again and becoming ultra-competitive! We have ran powerboat courses, gained four new Coastal Dinghy Instructors with a Level 2 Race Coach course to come next weekend they will be well equipped to bring on our fledgling Topper Squad. We have two new engines for our safety boats and two brand new RS Vision training boats are due to arrive any day now. Our social scene is again gathering pace with regular quiz nights planned and there are a few more super ideas in the pipeline. We are also currently building a new website. Its all go! I havent time to mention all the other good things that are happening in our club. But, be assured, we are again a vibrant club and ready to create and move into a new phase for the sport of sailing on the North Coast. Brian Holmes Rear Commodore Sailing/Training Officer
