Well its been a pretty sad day for us at Kirinari. Losing the beautiful Lemon Scented Gum from the block was hard for us all, however we have to move forward. The children will be regaining their beloved play space again soon. We made the very best we could of a bad situation and salvaged some loose parts for use in creative play. The Theory of Loose Parts is not a new one, but one that is gathering momentum in response to the very safe playgrounds that children have access to today. Risk in play is also an important consideration. While the demise of the tree is terribly sad, we can at least be grateful for the play opportunities that have been provided with the new assortment of natural construction material the children now have access to. Small consolation I know, but there you go. For your reading pleasure - letthechildrenplay.net/2010/01/how-children-use-outdoor-play-spaces.html
