Well last week was a life changer for me. My mammogram came back - TopicsExpress

Well last week was a life changer for me. My mammogram came back suspicious and they asked me to come back in and redo it. Two mammograms, an untrasound, and a biopsy later. The doctor tells me I have breast cancer. What a shock !! I have tried to reach out to as many people as I could. But finally decided just to tell everyone. Though I can finally say it out loud without crying The good news is that it is small all the doctors keep telling me that . Because I am a diabetic they do not want to create a wound the size removing my breast would make. So we are doing a lumpectomy and 5-6 weeks of radiation. Five days a week. Both have the same survival rating and basically the same chance of coming back. Once we finish all that it is off to the oncologists to see about chemo and/ or hormone suppression treatments. The doctors and nurses have been so kind - it has really helped. Surgery will be either Nov 10 or 11 I have been really looking for the silver linings here. I get to wear a purple survivor shirt at Relay and go to the survivor breakfast!! I bet radiation and/ or chemo will help with my weight loss measures! I dont know why this is my path to walk but I have prayed about this a lot and what I do know is that it is really my path. We will see what lessons are to be learned by it My relay friends - you would not believe all the ACS information I have been given by the doctors and nurses. It was kind of cool seeing all the pamphlets and information they had for me seemed odd looking at all of it from the other side of the table So glad for all the good work we do and the opportunity we have to touch lives and make a difference Love to all of you
