Well, my friends have covered most of what I thought might be - TopicsExpress

Well, my friends have covered most of what I thought might be worthy of comment, and then some (thanx dudes and dudette), leaving me with, mainly, celluloid Saints. That is more than I can manage, today. There are ten obits alone, and thirty + thespians born today, only a quarter of whom I have even heard of. Top of the list for obits is the God (Yes, God is dead) who first cinematically ascended to heaven, Marie-Georges-Jean Méliès, the Cinemagician, illusionist and film maker famous for leading many technical and narrative developments in the earliest days of cinema, a prolific innovator in the use of special effects, who accidentally discovered the substitution stop trick in 1896, and was one of the first filmmakers to use multiple exposures, time-lapse photography, dissolves, and hand-painted color in his work. Two of his most well-known films are A Trip to the Moon (1902) and The Impossible Voyage (1904). Both stories involve strange, surreal voyages, somewhat in the style of Jules Verne, and are considered among the most important early science fiction films, though their approach is closer to fantasy. Méliès was also an early pioneer of horror cinema, which can be traced back to his Le Manoir du diable (1896). He was also featured in the book The Invention of Hugo Cabret as well as its film adaptation Hugo. Next is, if not a God, a profit for prophet, who directed The Ten Commandments and whom PJ Farmer had take the job of handling the Special effects for the Revelation War, in return for time off from Hell, after Satan said he didnt want the part, he was tired of playing villains. A personal note, I am always surprised when I learn someone is connected with the Christian Science cult, because I feel a sense of community since Mom was a member. Doesnt make me like them or hate them, it is merely a momentary flash of my tribe. Farmer is one such, being like me, subjected to the incompatible influences of CS and JC (John Calvin) as a child. Another is the DeMille, whose wife and daughter were members. His daughter married the most popular actor on Earth, Anthony Quinn (A ranking earned by playing Abu Bekr in te Messenger.) Their two year old child, De Milles grandson drowned in the swimming pool of WC Fields, a tragedy that shocked Hollywood. There was a time, before National Geographic decided Africans were happy animals, when the only way a boy could see semi-naked women was to watch a Bible pic by DeMille.
