Well once again, we dodged a bullet - a dark overcast rain filled bullet! People could have been forgiven for thinking that it was Deepwater Outboard Club today, as our last race day of the season turn out to be an all outboard affair. Andrew King and Greg Banks gave their F2 tunnel boats a final shakedown before a couple of big upcoming meetings. Shayne Fountain had some misfortune with his F3. The 25hp/550cc class put on some spectacularly close racing and saw the debut of new kid to the class, Rob McIntyre driving Mayhem (about time you saw the light Rob!!). Adam Peck and Brock Cohen had a couple of races running gunnel to gunnel. Jessie Connolly gave us the breath holding moment of the day, when we all thought she would either end up running up the bank or coming out of the boat. With true Connolly grit and determination, Jessie held on and finished the race. The Formula Futures stars, as always, shone bright with current Australian J2 Champion, Kayla Malbon, Current NSW J2 and J3 Champions - the Sherry Boys (Blake and Hayden), Briney Rigby and Harrison Brereton all putting on some great, close racing. Fortunately the heavy rain held off until the final run of the day, then it bucketed down! Thank you to all of the competitors, families and friends for coming along. A big thank you to our volunteers - Larry Short, Max Sullivan, Greg Oxley, David & William Sullivan, Jefferson Brereton, Dave Gray, Mark Chase, Denis Brew, John Cohen, Brock Cohen, Damon Cohen and Glenn Burns for their efforts in getting the race day going and keeping it flowing, whether in the control tower, canteen or course boats. Thank you also to our diver Shawn and paramedic. It was a bit cool on the water but we breed em tough at Deepwater. Good luck to everyone running at Dargle next weekend and Penrith and Laidley in few weeks time.
