Well so much for fair treatment at the Alaska State fair. Initially I planned to fight over this but Im not sure its worth my time. And it likely wont matter.We get the message loud and clear. micheralyn was threatened with removal from open showmanship. Nothing worse than that for a teenager super excited to share an animal shes been raising. Just tired of the drama. Year after year they make us feel unwelcome. Year after year I watch the ridiculous politics of who knows who. So yes some people get away with things others just dont.Its not even just related to 4h anymore. And yes I am speaking out publicly about it. More people should. So we were told we could have a sign about our Farm Party Ponies and Friends in front of our highland heifer because we use her and a bunch of other animals to teach kids about farm life. Yes thats right I actually expected to get the same privileges as Heather Fair,Suzanne nevada, Laura Manary, Rachel Cox and a slew of others That have done this exact thing, placed their farm information in front of their animals. Today we were told to take it down that its not allowed. When I pointed out that these other people were allowed to, it shifted that they included information about the animals displayed. I agreed Micheralyn needed to add that information, but being the teenager she is, she has not responsibly created the additional signage that includes information about highlands. Still they said we could not have our farm name on any sign even if that sign contained information about the highland cow because thats not all we do. Really? So we need to bring a goat, sheep, horses. And then wed be allowed? So if I bring every animal we raise and use for education that makes a difference? Im literally supposed to fill the entire state fair barn with every animal on the farm. I doubt it. Suzanne Nevada raises dogs too yet Ive never seen them in the barn. I demanded the name of who said I had to remove our farm name. I had to ask 6 times before I could get a name. Initially I was told its just the rules. Finally after yelling and being firm i was given the name Bill. Funny when I I inquired further he has not even seen the sign. He never told anyone to take it down. So who exactly decided then that we are not allowed to advertise our farm Party Ponies And Friends. the mere fact that I was lied to and that several other well knowns are allowed to display their farm information really crawls under my skin and makes me just detest the entire place . We put just as much work into our animals as anyone else in the barn. And on top of that we raise them with The purpose of providing public education which in many cases is even provided free. We should be able to display our Information about what we raise and our farm, just like anyone else in the barn. We raise livestock for the purpose of education, food and to sell. Its not like Im trying to advertise a lawn mowing business in the barn. Im trying to advertise our farm and the animals raised there. Countless other farms in this community have done the same thing, silver aurora etc. The statement is now loud and clear. They are allowed because of who they know. We on the other hand are not. So when visiting the Alaska State fair. When you see the highland cow without a sign thats why. For those of you that are not familiar with highlands. She is the beautiful fuzzy red cow with the horn tips covered with balls. Feel free to share this. Make waves Im so tired of being stepped on. Ive been silent for the last three years of dealing with balone like this. I guess I just had this ridiculous thought that if I played nice and met people and did the time, Id be able to have the same status quo so to speak as everyone else that has placed there farms advertising above their animals. Obviously not. Raising these animals is a lot of work, time and money, and we should be able to display ours farms name Party Ponies and Friends just like everyone else displays theirs.
