Well the winter weather has moved on to the east leaving behind a bit of a mess this morning for the morning commute in parts of the LR Metro. A tragic situation on 67/167 with a 9 car accident that claimed a life this morning, possibly caused by icy conditions on the bridges/overpasses. It shows you that with just a small amount of moisture and temps at or below freezing, that hazardous conditions could occur. Traffic is still backed up in spots around the metro with 6 accidents showing up during this mornings rush. The snow that accumulated did so due to the intensity and cold temps, but mainly on exposed objects, elevated and grassy surfaces. Not much on any roads. The ice that developed was due to the melting snow and temps at or near freezing. Reports Ive seen indicated not much of anything west of LR with some reports The disturbance responsible for the snow has moved east and clouds should decrease today but cold conditions will continue. Highs will be in the 30s and 40s. A cold night tonight, possibly the coldest so far this year for many areas with lows in the teens and 20s forecast. Friday will see cold conditions but a little warmer than today with sunshine. A couple of disturbances in the upper atmosphere will work through over the weekend and into next week and combined with cold air at the surface there could be a mix of rain, rain/snow, rain/sleet/snow at times depending on location and current temp. One will move through on Saturday into Sunday with the strongest one coming through Sunday night into Monday. The timing of this could allow for winter weather even into Central AR so well have to watch this as additional data arrives. From the NWS in NLR, this mornings snow was the third earliest measurable November snow ever and the first since November 2,1951. The earliest measurable November snow occurred on November 9, 1892. So it was one for the record books. I believe this was the first measurable November snow since 1993 (or 95). I did manage to get a picture on ABCs Good Morning America. Ginger Zee showed a pic I took this morning at 3:30 AM.
