Well, this is a different type of story! Please read it all and share... Our rider Kevin B was out today at a presentation for us, on his return home, he took off his helmet and gloves, locked up the Blood Bike and his phone rang. Kevin went inside his house to take the call and on his return he found his helmet and gloves had been stolen! Some opportunist had seen fit to steal the safety equipment of a volunteer rider, this same volunteer goes out in all weather to potentially help save people lives, to help poorly babies by delivering Donor Breast Milk and to help save our NHS valuable funding and he does this for no pay or reward, Kevin is unfortunately now out of pocket to the sum of several hundred pounds. For those of our supporters out there who own bikes, you will know how expensive it is going to be for anyone to have to replace a helmet and gloves. Helmets cost anywhere between £200 to £400 to replace and gloves can be anything up to £120. This thief has technically took one of our bikes out of service temporarily, due to the fact our rider can no longer legally ride it without the items that have been stolen. Trying not to sound disrespectful and bitter, we sincerely hope the person who stole Kevins helmet and gloves this afternoon is never in a situation where one day, themselves or a member of their family need to rely on a service similar to ours only to find out that a rider couldnt make a run because someone had decided to take property that didnt belong to them. The team at Blood Bikes Manchester cannot believe someone can be so callous, if anyone local to the Tameside/Stockport area is offered a White Flip Front Nolan Helmet, with the word Blood in black lettering on the back (if the lettering has been removed it may still be visible that it was there due to a difference in colour shade) could you please contact us using [email protected] or GMP Tameside South or GMP Tameside North.
