Well, this movie didnt really work for me. Hahaha. Thats the thing about pain. It demands to be felt. is an quote repeated throughout the film, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately?) it never allows the audience to really feel the pain. It feels like theyre trying to explore the deeper and more painful themes of life and death, but yet seemingly never having courage to wade into it fully. It instead provides glimpses of what it could have been, and always pulling back in order to please the audience (and make them cry). Ultimately, like Shailene Woodley narrates in the opening of the movie and the trailer, this is just another sugar-coated Hollywood romantic drama with no shortage of scenes meant to leave you with a lump in your throat. Ok fine, dont believe me because Im a total skeptic for such romantic dramas (I did kinnda like Twilight though O.O STOP JUDGING ME!). Hahaha so yea, perhaps Im a little biased. And from the sobs I hear in the cinema, I probably am a little too skeptical. But oh wells, one mans meat is another mans poison.
