Well this place I blowing my mind... So I get off the boat at pier 1/ Ferry Building (Ill be San Fran has a few of those! Lol!). I was immediately engulfed Im a crowd of people who probably didnt like the fact that they had to dodge my bike, lol. Continuing up the road (The Embarcadero) I ran in to street performers doing their thing. I then continued up and around the bend towards the Golden Gate Bridge. At this point the sun was set and I was not able to take any good pics so stay tuned for those. I was headed for a campground on the north side of the bridge, but I couldnt, for the life of me, figure out how to get up to the bridge. It is very confusing (especially in the dark) with lots of trails and narrow roads. I thought that the route would be more clearly marked. As I walked toward Torpedo Wharf I saw a multitude of paper lanterns floating in to the sky (not sure what they are really called, I asked everybody here, even an oriental guy, and nobody knew) so I decided to investigate. As I got closer I encountered quite a large crowd of people all sending paper lanterns in to the sky. It was quite the sight with a backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge. Unfortunately the fun was short lived though when the cops came down there and started yelling at people and threatening to hand out citations (no sure if they actually did) it was quite amusing seeing them run around trying to put out the lanterns and catch the responsible party. They also drove that cop car a few places that I was surprised it fit. A lot of people were disappointed and headed further down the path (away from the cops) to light their lanterns. I saw them all the way down the path. And the cops were yelling in their bullhorn, but it didnt do much good. I then saw quite the sight in the distance and decided to check it out. I came upon the palace of fine arts and wow was my mind blown! I then wandered in to another park called Presidio. Not quite what I was expecting. This place is very interesting though. I guess these are offices and Lucas films has at least one. There is a nice commons area with trees, ponds, etc. I am now going to try to make my way across this bridge and go hit the woods for a few days... Here are some high lights of last night...
