Well we made it thru another weekend and it was a good one to be in the outdoors. We fished Lake Murray Saturday morning. The water temp was 82 and was fairly clear for the amount of rain we have been getting. The bass were feeding on this years hatch of shad. They are only about an inch long and makes it hard to match the hatch. Any schooling activity we had the bass would hit our topwater baits but not take it. I feel we would have done better with a white roostertail. We did hit the bank with floating worms around the grass and caught a good many. Not a lot of big bass but a lot of action. Some bream were on the bed and some bass could be seen around them. Swimming a jig the color of a bluegill will get strikes there. Also a good mayfly hatch is on in the mid lake area. A swimbait around those hatches will catch bass looking for an easy meal. As far as hunting. South Carolina opens August 15 in the low country. We set stands over the weekend. Stand placement is very important in deer hunting. Wind direction not only now but after the winds of change as fall comes is something you must account for. Cleaning shooting lanes and setting a few more stands over food plots after scouting will help to kill that big buck. Ill be putting the trail cam out this weekend to see what this lease holds. Hopefully hard work will pay off. Hunting in 90 plus heat with skeeters and the snakes makes for some rough hunting. The last few years our early rut came in the last week of Sept. Ill be spending a lot of time in the woods then but only a couple days a week during the early season, after all the fish are still biting. But then again they never stop in SC. Till next week tightlines and shoot straight.
